Language is the ability to communicate through talking, gesture and/or body language. It can be divided into receptive language (the ability to understand language) and expressive language (the ability to give information to other people).
Neurogenic Language Disorders
Neurogenic language disorders can be caused by
- Stroke
- Brain tumor
- Traumatic brain injury
- Parkinson’s disease
- Other neurological diseases
Aphasia is the impaired ability to understand or communicate with language. This disorder can affect the understanding, speaking, reading or writing of language.
Literacy
Literacy includes reading, reading comprehension, and spelling. The development of literacy skills can impact on a students learning and educational outcomes. Phonological awareness skills have also have an impact on a students literacy skills.
